The Safeguards Technologies Workshop will be held July 10-11 on the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) campus located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. It is designed with a 2-day format where the stakeholders can discuss important topics in a relaxed environment. The dates were specifically selected to coincide with the annual meeting of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) being held in Nashville, Tennessee, from July 13-17. Nashville is a pleasant 2 ½ hour drive west of Oak Ridge, and participants can take advantage of the close proximity of the annual INMM meeting to combine their travel plans and thus maximize the utilization of their time.

The workshop will focus on technology applications and demonstrations. The morning of the first day will set the stage with a description of the existing safeguards applications at Gas Centrifuge Enrichment Plants. Operators are encouraged to share their experience on how the IAEA has applied safeguards at their facilities. The improved IAEA safeguards model will be discussed along with technology applications and approaches that could be employed to address some of the current inspection and verification challenges. This will be followed in the afternoon by demonstrations of some of these new technologies and approaches by the developers. The demonstrations may include the sharing of results from field testing and demonstrations.
